After studying the pre-Columbian period of Native American history and its glory and then exploring the destruction of their way of life through broken treaties, cultural annihilation of government Indian schools and the tragedy of Wounded Knee, I would turn off the lights of my classroom and ask my students to relax and let this music sweep over them. The essays, poetry and images they created afterwards were powerful and evocative. Without understanding a word,they understood the meaning of Arrival.
