After the Supreme Court in 2000 ordered a recount to stop and - TopicsExpress

After the Supreme Court in 2000 ordered a recount to stop and declared the loser the winner, I think we have all been hesitant to declare subsequent elections stolen because a. Its too bloody depressing, and b. We have won every presidential election since except for one in 2004 (for more on that election Google None dare call it stolen and Ohio 2004). But what is going on now stinks. Its not a conspiracy because it is happening in the open. Voters who disproportionately would have voted Democratic were denied access to the polls in numbers greater than the margin of victory in some tight races. Its ironic that Republicans who fought fiercely to jam these things through before the election are always blabbering about fewer government regulations and greater personal freedom. Unless the freedom in question is the freedom to vote. And by the way, the de jure poll tax used to bar black Americans from voting was a screaming bargain compared to the de facto poll tax on potential African American voters today: As one study by a Harvard Law School researcher found, the price for obtaining a legally recognized voter identification card can range from $75 to $175, when you include the costs associated with documentation, travel and waiting time. (For context, the actual poll tax that the Supreme Court struck down in 1966 was just $1.50, or about $11 in today’s dollars.)
