After the change of command last week, Chris Golden, Ryan Meyer and I drove to Bad Kötzting to review an unbelievable collection of artifacts from the Wehrmacht’s 11th Panzer Division, a unit that surrendered to the Second Armored Cavalry at the end of WW II. Clemens Pongratz, town archivist, could not have been a more welcoming host, opening box after box for us. The cache include battlefield maps, correspondence and diaries as well as previously unknown photographs of the surrender ceremony. Ryan will have plenty for an exhibit (he is the Second Cavalry Regimental Museum Director, a must-see if youve not been there yet, fellow Troopers.)
