After the dust and excitement has settled from the tragedy that was the TransformUS process, which was imposed upon us quite easily by an administration that was created to restructure the way all of us engage this beautiful institution, it should be recognized that, though our voices have been heard, we dont have the power yet to defend our University. As it stands: TransformUS had already caused incredible damage to programs and services on campus through incentivized retirements and firings, and, if not repaired, will likely bring the destruction of many valued endeavors; We still need to see changes so that students, faculty and staff are directly involved in the decisions of the universities direction and priorities. Consultation is nice, but our voices should not simply be heard. We need to be effectively involved; There continues to be contradictions in the visions for the the University that administration is making for us. Such that we will continue in trying to promote the prestigious endeavor of achieving research greatness, through building costly and unprofitable infrastructure to entice business directed research, while aiming to promote the inclusion of the underprivileged Indigenous population in our province and country. This is an issue as the humanities that offer critical analysis of oppression have been ravaged and we dont have the funds to do repair them and aim for more privileged ends. The narrative we are given seems too good to be true and is soiled by the new implementation of the Transparent, Activity Based Budget System (TABBS), which suspiciously resembles a covert and permanent means for administration to lead a milder, yet still TransformUS-esque, program prioritization process. usask.ca/tabbs/about/ As much I would love to, and have, reveled in this victory, our university is still wounded, and slightly sick. And we need to work to heal and grow stronger. Beyond that, we need to make sure that we, as stakeholders of this university, have the power to ensure that our collective vision and direction is not dictated by residing administrations, but by those that are affected. We should not be dependent on the benevolence of strong leadership to ensure that our community is inclusive, well-guided, or sustainable. We are a community of strong and clever individuals, and we all need to make sure that we all have the means to determine what happens to US. #DefendUS #TransformUS
