After the recent fallout on the mining saga, pressure groups has successfully convinced the government to take appropriate measures to review the controversial World heritage program in East Rennell. last week, a team of UNDP and Ministry of Environment with the support of L&L toured East Rennell and visited all four villages conducting meetings. The program has now reviewed it strategy and has come up with a three years work plan. according to the touring team leader, part of the change of approach is to consider the improvement of infrastructure and pay close attention on economical activities that were initially overlooked. the move was well received by villagers. all local establishments including the LTWH Committee, church leaders, LOs and Council of chiefs pledged support to the new approached. it was acknowledged that Lughu people and LOs are to be given greater recognition and participatory role in this new approach. let us wait and see how this new approach will turn out in the coming 3 years. it is the duty of all our people to take ownership of their homeland and nothing come easy in life except from hard work. if we are serious about the future of our children, let us embrace this program and utilise it for the sake of improving our peoples livelihood.
