After the seventh consecutive #ODI win over touring #NewZealand, #Bangladesh look ahead to the lone #T20 international of the tour and are eager to give it a perfect finish at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur today. The match is scheduled to begin at 1:30pm and will be telecast live on BTV and GTV (Gazi Television). The two teams have only met twice in the shortest format of the game, and the #Kiwis have emerged victors both times. The last time was in the 2012 World #Twenty20 and on that occasion, Brendon #McCullum’s 58-ball 123 propelled New Zealand to an easy 59-run victory in Pallekele. That loss and the following one to Pakistan saw Bangladesh fall to 11th place in the ICC T20 rankings, behind Ireland and Afghanistan and the #Tigers are out to prove themselves better than that. “Of course our target will be to win the game, but at the same time the game will also help us assess and prepare for the Twenty20 World Cup, which is just months away,” Bangladesh captain #MushfiqurRahim told the press Tuesday. This is probably the best time for the Tigers to begin fixing their horrible Twenty20 record. They have lost six of their last seven matches, and went down to teams like Netherlands and Scotland in recent times. “It is true that we don’t hold a good track record in Twenty20. However I think the time now demands that we perform in this format and not make any excuse. We are confident of doing well and I believe the players are in the rhythm, which is needed in this format,” added the wicket-keeper batsman. Today’s game will be Mushfiq’s last as captain under current terms with the Bangladesh Cricket Board, but given his success as leader over the last two years, the 25-year old is almost certain to remain in charge of the side. “If the board extends my role as captain, I would request that they do so for a longer period, rather than on a series-to-series basis. I believe this will be good,” Mushfiq said.
