After the very talented San Francisco-based Tibetan artist Dhondup - TopicsExpress

After the very talented San Francisco-based Tibetan artist Dhondup Namgyal made a very nice portrait of me based on a photo from the 1989 Tiananmen Massacre, my friend Julian Gearing, an award winning British journalist based in Bangkok put in a quote from a recent speech I made in L.A.. So here it is. Im feeling very spoiled. For the past 25 years, June 4th has always been the most difficult day of the year for me. For me, its supposed to be a very private moment hiding in a corner to weep for the dead or burying myself in mountains of work trying to forget. But this year has been quite different -- messages and comments have been pouring in from around the world from my friends on social media and old friends and former colleagues. Im surrounded by so much love and compassion, which greatly eased the pain in my heart. Arent I lucky! And Ive been approached by media for interviews since March. While being reluctant to be on the other side of the microphone/camera, I know its important to speak for those who cant, either the dead or the muzzled. If we in the relatively freer world dont, then who would? Many thanks, my dearest friends! I am touched and thrilled by so much attention. I was a nobody in Tiananmen Square and Im still a nobody. The Tank Man was a nobody and we still dont know his name. And you may think youre nobody, too. But if we nobodies work together, we can be somebodies and bring change. Lots of love and a big bow!
