After traveling 14,000 miles the past ten days, it felt good to relax yesterday. Relax being defined as arriving at the hospital at 8am to see Susan. Drive home, pick up our three older girls for church, while Angela remained at the hospital till 3pm. Come home from church, make lunch for the girls and start the rest of our day. Angela came home from the hospital and took Laura and Paige for some girl-time shopping till 4:30pm. Barry Hamilton came to the rescue last night. Barry is a friend whom Ive gotten to know through our church. And he also happens to be one crazy grill master! Barry cooked two racks of ribs for our family yesterday and called me to stop by and pick them up, along with his famous coleslaw and some brisket. Wowzers. Talk about perfect timing. Ever since Angela went on bed rest June 30th, so many people have cooked meals, helped shuttle the girls to school, events, lunches, dinners and so much more. We have a pretty good life, where mom and dad dont have traditional jobs and can be very flexible but it still can become overwhelming at times. Yesterday was just one more example of how much good is in the world. Neighbors helping neighbors. Never asking for a favor in return. Truth be told, this is not the first time Barry has cooked a meal for us but it could not have come on a better day. I arrived home late Saturday night from California. We had all those issues with Susan late last week, which had us a bit off our game. And then Barry called, one of so many who have been there for us along this journey. I havent done enough to highlight all the people who have supported us behind the scenes but Im going to start doing it more often. Friends, neighbors, even strangers - stepping in and giving of their time for no other reason than because they want to help. Theres still good people in the world. We sure are blessed to be surrounded by a whole bunch of them.
