After watching them most of the day yesterday, Steve and I - TopicsExpress

After watching them most of the day yesterday, Steve and I returned to the mama moose and calf this afternoon. When we arrived, we were amazed at how well the little calf was doing. He actually followed his mother about 1/3 of the way into the river and when the water got too deep he turned around and went back to the island. Just yesterday he wouldnt even put a foot in the water! After seeing that, both Steve and I were feeling certain that he would be able to cross the river to the mainland in a few days. That certainty was short lived after our friend, Bob, told us that the little calf was swept downstream by the rivers current early this morning when trying to cross. At that time, the calf was forced underwater and Bob thought he would drown. Luckily the calf crashed into some debris and was able to get out of the water. I would never have guessed that this had happened after seeing how feisty the little guy was later in the day. In this video, youll see the calf turn around once he encounters the rushing water of the Shoshone. When we left the pair a little while ago, the calf was sleeping on the island and his mother was on the mainland eating willow. I can see the little calf growing stronger each day and hopefully in a few days he will be able to join his mother on the mainland. I know nature can be cruel, but I do hope this story will have a happy ending. As always, comments and shares are appreciated.
