After watching yesterday Fiji Secondary School quarterfinals, I am - TopicsExpress

After watching yesterday Fiji Secondary School quarterfinals, I am rest assured that Fiji Rugbys future is intact and safe. However, I am just wondering why FRU does not work with the FSSRU and vice versa. Schools Rugby is development and feeder for the FRU. Is it not logical therefore for FRU to be actively involved in schools rugby. IRB gives fund to FRU for development and schools rugby is the biggest development programme running for rugby locally. Why not select a Fiji team for all grades for secondary schools rugby at the end of each season. Get the players to a one week or weekend camp and expose them to the HPU and a professional setup where they can learn the right training methods, understand their positions core function in order to master their positions and exposed to national team environment. And have rugby camps for them thereafter and monitor their developments. What bigger reward is there for players than recognition by FRU. Only then will schools rugby be useful and objective. We have seen so many talented and gifted players in schools rugby just fade away and lost after secondary schools rugby due to the absence of recognition and a system to bridge secondary schools to the national team setup. Fiji Rugby needs to look around and see what Rugby League, Cricket, Soccer, Aussie footy is doing locally with regards to development and act accordingly.
