After working in the gulf for nearly 6 years every man wants to go home, proud, with a bag load of gifts from his family and his pockets full, so did Arif Hussain but luck isnt with him as he is being deported home after a fatal accident. Having met with an accident last week, where he was hit by a driver while crossing the road, he was arrested right after his surgery at SMC. The doctors were placing a steel rod in my leg when the police was waiting to arrest me. I was immediately taken in custody since the accident was considered to be my fault. said Arif. Adding fuel to the situation was his expired Visa which has become another reason for him to be held back in custody. Arif arrived in Bahrain 5 years and 7 months ago, paying BDT 4 lakhs (approximately BD 1950) and did odd jobs like plumbing, painting and other construction work to earn his bread. Completing 2 years, he approached the agent in Bahrain to renew his visa, paying him BD 800, who soon after left the country and never came back. When I came to know about my Visa not being valid I tried to contact the agent but got to know that he had gone to Bangladesh, where he was killed by drowning in a river. I was worried as he was holding my passport but after contacting various people I came to know that my agent before going to Bangladesh had handed over my passport to his friend, another agent. recalled Arif. After a struggle and paying money to the agent, he was able to retrieve his passport. The company that I am working for, had agreed to give me a Visa (though he had to pay the visa money) provided that I renewed my passport which had expired and paying BD 90 to an agent I renewed by passport but later they refused to give me a visa saying they didnt have enough. Disappointed yet he continued to work to earn his money. Meanwhile, last month, while working he had slipped off a ladder and injured his face and teeth. When asked the company for a remuneration, he was bluntly refused stating that he wasnt under their visa and the medical expense of BD 200 was bore by himself. When asked what will he do for a living back home, he promptly replied that he would give tuition for 9th and 10th grader, which he had been doing before coming to Bahrain. Right now all I want is to back to Bangladesh. With my condition now I dont think so I will be able to do physical work for some time. he said. Currently he is locked up at the Gudaibiya Police station and awaiting to go home. He needs to meet his medical bills, traffic fine and a return ticket home, so if any of you are willing to contribute please contact his brother on 35089982 and for more information contact Anwar Moideen on 38444689.
