After wrapping up a job, I decided to take a break tonight and catch a band and have dinner down in San Pedro. I had dinner at Shin Shin Chinese, and quite enjoyed it. Which brings up a funny thing about Yelp. Look, I get that not everyone likes everything, but when I see absurdly negative and nasty reviews, of which this place had a few, I wonder what is up. The food was well above average, to say the least, and it had an old-fashioned decor that suited me fine. Fortunately, they also have a number of four and five star reviews as well, much closer to what they deserved. In fact, the band I was seeing came in and were at the next table with their entourage and they seemed pleased as well. So, the band was the Ryo Okumoto band (best known as keyboardist with Spocks Beard) across the street from Shin Shin at Alvas Showroom. This is a new venue for me, and I found it very comfortable and a great place to really see a band, and good sound. The also have a good sized music store next door that Id love to spend a little more time looking through. Anyway, a great show. Great music, first rate musicians, a fun evening.
