Afternoon Update on T-storm Potential: Things remain fairly - TopicsExpress

Afternoon Update on T-storm Potential: Things remain fairly quiet across the NBC29 viewing area as we work through the afternoon. Radar continues to show just a few spotty showers. The expansive cloud cover across the region has certainly helped to limit the instability in the atmosphere for us, and hence, a good reason why we havent seen much so far. Severe T-storm Watches and Tornado Watches are in effect to our west where the atmosphere is currently more conducive for severe weather. We continue to track some strong upper level energy digging in from our north and west combined with a strong surface cold front moving in from the west clashing with a very humid air mass. As we work into the evening and nighttime hours, it still appears conditions become a bit more favorable for the NBC29 viewing area to see t-storm development, with some storms becoming strong to severe. Some uncertainty remains however with just how much shower/storm coverage will actually take shape across the viewing area. Because instability has been limited throughout the day, and showers and storms will have to cross the Allegheny and Blue Ridge Mountains, its not out of the question we dont see much. This does not mean you should let your guard down by any means though and continue to pay close attention to the weather over the next several hours. Ill continue to keep you posted with the latest updates on here--Meteorologist Clayton Stiver
