Afternoon everyone In my last email I had indicated that we were looking to get some testing of the burnt material completed - and here is my update as follows: We have had further conversations with our Senior Environmental Health Officer confirming the kind of testing we should be seeking, what firm we should be using for this testing and what kind of results we should be looking for. We have also spoken with Hills Laboratory to gather their views on the best analytical testing for the MDF material. We had engaged PDP to undertake the testing programme. It has taken some time to agree to the costs associated with such testing and the type of testing that will be undertaken. The testing will involve obtaining a representative samples of the MDF material and testing it for a suite of 8 heavy metals, semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOC) and total cyanide. We want to understand the effects from the presence of any of these elements on the site and in terms of any processing/recovery type activities. PDP are a New Zealand-owned environmental consultancy specialising in Air, Water, Land and Environmental Management - and you can learn more about them at pdp.co.nz/index.cfm . PDP use their Environmental Scientists to undertake this kind of work. We are now awaiting the results. Timings for this are contingent on how quickly the samples can be analysed at the laboratory and the report write up to follow. We will share this report with you. We have also been exploring changes to the Site Management Plan which is part of the Resource Consent conditions. This is to have some agreed changes to the practices associated with stockpiling certain materials to avoid/mitigate the potential for any further spontaneous combustion. I have also meet with Megan Woods and Maryan Street to explain the regulatory history and current/recent proceedings against Owaka Holdings Ltd. Have a nice weekend. I am on leave next week returning to work Monday 22 July 2013.
