Afternoon everyone! This will be the last segment to our How to maintain your hair color. I really wanted to finish with knowing you hair color. What are you using? Do you have it professionally done or boxed color? We will be going over both today. Ill start off saying color is unique to EVERY individual person I can not stress this enough, as a colorist before I start any color service I check for natural level, hair porosity, previous artificial pigments, how even the hair color is, if we are covering any gray, etc. Having all these things in mind will change my formula, technique, how many colors I use, & the peroxide lvl I use. So needless to say I could have a few bowls with different formulas and or colors to get the desired look the client wants. What do you get with boxed color? Lets be honest you get one color & one developer, I dont care what that box says about you looking like Beyonce or Gwen Stefani with all that dimension of color from that little box, they have their hair professionally done and spend thousands of dollars to get that look. Being a licensed professional I know that because of that one size fits all hair color you are using, you are most likely damaging your hair because of the peroxide level being the same to alter many different shades and hair types, in turn over processing your hair. That is why you hair is dry, apart from what you may think about hair color it does not have to feel that way. What about the color being even? Most of you apply the bottle to the whole head, when you should be applying to the roots and pulling through the ends. Now how are you going to be able to apply it at any different of a way in a bad little bathroom slapping that color on your hair?... Thats how you get brassy blondes with white ends or brunettes with black ends. I was horrified last year when I saw the at home ombre kits at the store. All I could think of was the public is going to be using a lightener on their hair, to the ends I might add and possibly over processing them which will cause breakage, so say bye bye to your hair length. So what you have to ask yourself is saving money now going to pay off in the end when you have to fix a unwanted shade boxed color gave you, and spend $300 on a color correction? Most salons have a going rate of $50-$100 a hour on color correction. It doesnt happen over night either, it will take a few times to do. Applying a color over your hair will not always fix it, you have years of color pigments on your hair and could even have metallic dyes from cheaper boxed hair color, needless to say it is not always certain how it could turn out. I am not here to bash people who use at home hair color, some of you can apply that all over hair color and get the look you desire. I am here to tell you what you might not know that is in that box. Your hair health and well being is what I care about most. After doing hair for almost 10 years now I wanted to find the safest and healthiest way to color hair.
