Again, I am reminiscing: May 6, 1961 I was a virgin bride. Every month my first husband, now deceased, awaited news of my being pregnant. August 1961 I gave him the news that I was pregnant. Everyone was excited, this was their first, grandchild, great-grand child, niece. Everyone wanted a boy. I prayed every day that I would have a baby girl. I did not have a sister and I wanted a girl. April 8. 1962 I went into labor. I was in labor for 18 ours.(I got hemorrhoids for pushing so much, lol) My brother Junior (Artemio Aponte Jr.) refused to go home from the hospital and fell asleep on the couch in the hospital. Junior wanted to see his first niece. Finally at 10:00 ‘o’clock April 9, 1962, I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. God answered my prayer. Everyone was happy with my baby. I was overwhelmed with joy. I had to learn how to play jacks and girly games to play with her, since I was never around girls, just my brothers and the soft ball players I grew up with. Today, she is a mom and grandma herself. I tried my best to be a good mother to her and her sisters and brothers. I know I have made mistakes along the way, to keep them safe, but one thing is for sure, that they have always been first in my life. I apologize IF at any time I unwillingly or unknowingly, did anything to hurt her. She is a wonderful mother and grandmother, sister, cousin, aunt, ect, ect. HAPPY BIRTHDAY ILEANA GARCIA.
