Age I was given by Sandra Overman Burns: 32 Where I lived: South Lyon, MI What I drove: 2002 Ford Focus (loved that car) What I did: For the first part of the year, I was a Systems Engineer with Atkins Benham, but the economic fallout of 9/11 hit our customers, the big three auto makers, pretty hard. So I ended up getting laid off. I made it through the first three rounds of layoffs, but business was bad. I was on unemployment for one month, and then, ironically enough, I started working on 9/11/2002 as a Programmer/Analyst at the Michigan Supreme Court as a Compuware contractor. Who had my heart: Michael Carrion, my husband at the time. Very sweet man, but Im not cut out for marriage. Sorry, Mike :-(. Age I am now: 44 in two days! Where I live: Lansing, MI What I drive: 2009 Ford Focus (not as good as its predecessor) What I do: Programmer/Analyst III for the Michigan Supreme Court (they wooed me from Compuware in July of 2004 -- so Im almost at the ten-year mark as an employee of the state judicial branch of government) Who has my heart: My family, my friends, my cat, my boyfriend -- I care about a lot of people, but I just dont do the romantic love thing very well. Realizing this has freed me in many ways. Previously, I felt I needed to have a romantic relationship because my self-esteem depended on it, not because I felt some particularly strong bond with someone else. Now, my self-esteem has much more to do with my internal landscape, and I dont need that relationship biofeedback. If Mike (not Carrion) and I broke up tomorrow, I wouldnt be sad -- as long as he wanted to remain friends. And, to be quite frank, I wouldnt bother looking around for a replacement, either. Guess Im a bit of an odd duck that way. Like my status, and Ill give you an age to write about!
