Age UK Blackpool in partnership with Blackpool FC Community Trust, hosted their first Walking Football tournament last week. Walking football is proving to be very popular amongst men over the age of 50 in Blackpool and during the past 8 months the Teams (Blackpool Senior Seasiders) have created a fantastic bond. On 21st August, despite the rain, 67 men descended on Blackpool Sports Centre, to take part in the Warbutons Cup tournament. The event was officially opened by Age UK Blackpool President, Jimmy Armfield, with some fine words of wisdom and support for what he felt was a fantastic turnout despite the weather. FA representative, Andy Whittaker presented the man of the match awards along with the Cup which was proudly received by the team from Chesterfield. Walking Football is being encouraged all over the UK to help motivate older men to take up physical activity within their weekly routine. It is a great fun way to keep fit, learn (or rekindle) skills and most importantly to socialise. Well done to everyone involved and congratulations to the winners!
