Age given to me by Nancy Foy: 21 Where I lived: in a top-floor walk-up single in Winthrop House at Harvard in my senior year; first time Id ever had a space to myself What I drove: didnt drive, had no car, walked everywhere or took the MTA What I did: directed plays, went to class, worked at the Shubert Theatre and the Boston Opera, was president of Harvard G+S, applied to med school and law school to please my dad, sneaked an application to Carnegie-Mellon Drama School on the side, got some financial aid there, and told my parents at graduation I was going to drama school. Kind of ruined their day. Meanwhile Vietnam was raging and protests were a daily event. Who had my heart: Vanessa Redgrave, but she never knew. Lotte Lenya, who did. Beverly Sills, who didnt. Also, my work -an incredible longing for a special kind of life that I really believed existed somewhere... Age I am now: 65 Where I live: Greensboro, NC and on the road What I drive: an aging but beloved Saturn; about to move on What I do: director and acting teacher, work a lot of places Who has my heart: that special kind of life, which does exist. Like for an age.
