Agence France Presse - Bayeux-Calvados award for war correspondents (October 11, 2014) We warmly congratulate Mr. Mohammed Al-Shaikh and Bulent Kilic, Agence France Presse photographers who received the first and third prizes in the “professional photo” category of the Bayeux-Calvados award. The town of Bayeux, together with Calvados General Council, presents this award to pay tribute to journalists who carry out their work under dangerous conditions in order to allow us have access to independent information. Mr. Al-Shaikh and Mr. Kilic were rewarded for their outstanding professionalism and their courage in the service of the freedom of information, following their coverage of the demonstrations in Bahrain, and the protest movement in Independence Square (the Maidan) in Kiev, respectively. France is mobilized to support the work of journalists and ensure their safety. On our initiative, the UN proclaimed November 2 as “International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists.”
