Agency is the massive disarticulation of exponential technologies. Consciousness narrative is linear. What happens, happens spontaneously—as phenomena, and that phenomena can act [implying choice] is counterfactual. Counterfactual conditions are incoherent because they depend on supernarrative reality of any variable or dimension—spatial, temporal or other abstraction. The idea that a tree stands in the forest outside explicit realization is the same counterfactual, spatially, as the temporal counterfactual that something could have happened that did not happen. Something does not realize independent of realizing as sensation, whether visceral-emotional, sensory-empirical or sensical-rational/metaphysical.
