Agent Carter did so many things right, what a great and fun show. When Wonder Woman is written well, shes a feminist icon...but that never happens anymore, so Im totally cool with Peggy Carter taking the mantle. Highlights! -Hayley Atwell is such a great lead, she could not be doing a better job anchoring this thing. She handles the dramatic scenes and wisecracks with equal aplomb, and sells the action scenes. -Using her espionage job as a way to do the secret identity genre tropes is a terrific idea- it makes it feel like a superhero spy show, instead of just a spy show. -The direction is excellent- both of the episodes shown tonight had iconic shots. The first episode, the shot of her in her bold dress and bright red hat, walking through the crowd of men in drab suits is a perfect establishing shot. In the second episode, inter-cutting the fight with the Captain America radio show was SO GOOD. The damsel on the radio saying Captain America, what would I ever do without you as Peggy Carter is kicking ass, giving a hero pose, then rolling her eyes at the radio show. God, what a great moment. I just thought this thing was terrific across the board. Funny, exciting, pulpy, and that bad guy with the mustache looks like a Ditko drawing. Every thumb up, good job Marvel.
