Agnes Scott Partners with Georgia Tech on Path to MBA Friday, September 27, 2013 While women comprise nearly half of the U.S. workforce and more than half of U.S. college students, gender disparities in business leadership persist. At Fortune 500 companies, women hold just 4.4 percent of CEO positions, 14.3 percent of executive officer positions, and 16.6 percent of Board of Director seats. Agnes Scott College has signed a memorandum of understanding with Georgia Institute of Technology’s Scheller College of Business to address this gender disparity by providing a pathway for Agnes Scott students to enroll in Georgia Tech’s Master of Business Administration (MBA) program. The two institutions also partnered in 2010 to create the Bridge to Business program, an intensive three-week summer program which introduces Agnes Scott students to key business concepts and serves as an introduction to an MBA. “Our partnership efforts with Agnes Scott College are leading to broader career opportunities for participants,” said Scheller College Dean Steve Salbu. “We are strongly committed to enhancing diversity, and delighted to work closely with Agnes Scott College on this pathway for talented women in business.” “The MBA pairs well with a liberal arts education such as Agnes Scott’s, and Georgia Tech thinks our students are well suited to its program,” said Tom Will, director of the MBA Linkage Program and associate professor of organizational management at Agnes Scott. “On a broader level, programs that cultivate women’s leadership are both good for the country and good for business,” he added. The agreement provides qualified Agnes Scott students with several tools to facilitate the transition from an undergraduate degree to an MBA, including membership in the Georgia Tech chapter of MBA Women International; access to a GMAT prep seminar, networking events and informational sessions; and guidance on career progress after graduation from Agnes Scott. Qualified Agnes Scott students are guaranteed an interview for Georgia Tech’s MBA program, and accepted applicants will be given priority funding consideration. "This unique collaboration will prepare Agnes Scott students for successful business careers while promising to further diversify the Scheller College of business," according to Carolyn J. Stefanco, vice president for academic affairs and dean of the college at Agnes Scott.
