Agriculture and Food in the Classroom!!! October 5th, 2013 from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm On Saturday, October 5th from 8:30 am to 30:30 pm (earning six professional development credits) join New York Agriculture in the Classroom and the Poughkeepsie Farm Project for a day of hands-on learning about the connections between agriculture, the environment, and people. This Food, Land and People Training will focus on lessons and activities that support school gardening projects, but that can also be done without a school garden. Each participant will receive a CD containing all 55 Food, Land and People lessons. Food, Land and People is: science and social studies-based lessons for Pre-K to 12th grade 55 lessons for hands-on learning, critical thinking, and easy integration with existing curricula aligned to NYS Learning Standards a range of educational materials exploring food and nutrition, natural resources, conservation, farming, consumer choices, stewardship, human populations, and land use issues available in Spanish (20 lessons) The Poughkeepsie Farm Project will be hosting the Food, Land and People Training for educators working with elementary and middle school students. There is a $20 fee for participating in this training. The registration fee includes a local vegetarian lunch that highlights new dishes developed for our Farm to School Program by chefs from the Culinary Institute of America.
