Ah NOLA…this is a city like any other city but unlike any other - TopicsExpress

Ah NOLA…this is a city like any other city but unlike any other city I have been to. San Francisco or LA are cities also but with a difference, each having its own unique settings or parts. Walking through the French Quarter today, an off day for the tourist, the contrasts are remarkable. I see a woman dressed to the nines walking past a gentleman slumped into the sidewalk with a brown paper cover beer held loosely in his hand; a young tourist covered with cameras passing a shop keeper looking disgusted at the lack of visitation to his shop. The streets are made of, not gold, but broken tiles and concrete interspaced with patches of some forging matter that I am not sure of the origin. I look left as I walk and glimpse an oasis of green down a long and narrow walkway of brick closed off by a gate of wrought iron, it seems so inviting but so un accessible. A shapely young girl dressed in gold and damn little of it offers me a drink if I would just enter the establishment she stands infront of while an older woman looks on disgustedly. I see beautiful landscaping yards with a dead beer bottle lying in the middle like some sign that someone has been there. The electric songs of the signs yell out to me to enter and enjoy the jazz or the oldies or the girls or the coldest beer in the quarter. In some ways it is nearly overwhelming but pleasant at the same time.
