Aha! Have you been waiting for the coverage of the second EL - TopicsExpress

Aha! Have you been waiting for the coverage of the second EL (Englishlife) Debate Club? Here it is! It was really “HOT!” according to the words of the participants. But at the beginning the room was cool and sometimes even cold. So we had to warm it up by discussing the meaning of our lives and of course through applause. It became hotter and we moved to the main purpose of our club - debating. People mainly came to debate, wanting their ability to speak English to be estimated and do it in front of an audience. The organizer and a host of EL Debate Club Jasur Eshmuratov, offered people to choose the topic from three suggestions. The most participants voted for “Should parents determine the future of their children?” Affirmative and Negative teams were given fifteen minutes to think. When the timekeeper Begzod showed the audience the ten seconds card, the room dipped into silence. The introduction speaker from the Affirmative group, Sardor, was the first speaker. He also introduced his team’s perspective in the previous debate. It seems he is going to be the formal introducer of all Affirmative teams in EL Debate Club. He could ask for a salary from his crew, since he did his job smoothly and avowedly. The leader, introduction and conclusion maker from Negatives was Jamshid. He delivered his speech briefly, introducing their three points and promised us undoubtedly hot debates. The first point was represented by the leader of Affirmative team Laziz. His vocabulary was great (maybe that’s because he learns two hundred words a day). He insisted that society cannot survive without parent’s heading. But his opponent Jamshid asked him an interesting question “What about children who do not have parents?”. While they were under reflection, Sevara from Negative side objected and went to the stage with her first point. She mentioned ‘Human Rights’, which was challenged by a question from Sardor: “Do human rights provide source for parents?”. There was not a certain answer. With this little victory representative from Affirmatives, a girl with a beautiful long hair, Madina, began her speech. She discussed psychological support of parents in her oration. When she finished, one of the most active participants Najiba made a passionate speech. She spoke persuasively giving examples from her own life. Then was a turn of Affirmative group to prove their position. And Islom did it satisfactorily by putting parents’ degree of life experience on the scale. The debate was ended by the third point speaker from Negatives Shukhrat. He talked about a person’s individuality and losing it if someone determines other’s life. And at last we saw conclusion makers on the tribune. Shakhnoza from Affirmative team finished the debate with a proverb: “We cannot turn our head without our neck!” After some discussion, adjudicators of the five criteria which include English fluency, Public speaking skills, Relevance of arguments and content, Team work and initiative and The extent to which the proper rules of behavior are abided by gave their comments to the speakers, mentioned their weaknesses and strong sides and announced the winner. Now Negatives can enjoy their place under the sun! Congratulations to: Jamshid (the leader) Najiba Shukhrat Sevara Jasmin And others. Don’t be afraid to speak up! Get rid of your fear and shyness, everything gets better with experience, and EL (EnglishLife) debate club will help you with it! Sincerely yours, Sabina Normagomedova. Photos by Lola Baymirzaeva
