Aha! One of my two antivirus options, ClamWin, failed last night, with a 404 page on the apps website (Does not exist). I used that program, in conjunction with Microsoft Security Essentials, as they did not clash, and worked in slightly different ways, covering the bases alongside each other. For weeks now, I have suffered poor connections, hanging and slow loading times in my browser. To combat the lack of full antivirus protection, I decided to download Avast! Free Antivirus 2014, to replace the other two options which I had used for a couple of years. Hey presto. As soon as it started up, it identified a hidden browser add-on called Babylon Toolbar (a known malware, and probably what was affecting my browser performance). It offered to remove that for me (which I said yes to), and, immediately after, my browser started off like a train!!! So, a full recommendation for Avast!, and, if you need an AV solution in the near future, I would say Try it!. :D
