Ahead of Eid, Geelani, Shah, Khan placed underhouse arrest Srinagar, Aug 8:In the wake of reports of likely protests on Eid-ul-Fitr, authorities on Thursday placed several separatist leaders including Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani under house arrest. Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Shalinder Kumar said there won’t be anykind of restrictionson Eid. However, he said, in case need arises appropriate steps would be taken to maintain peace in the city. Geelani had called for peaceful protests after Eid prayers against the human rights violations in the state. He had also announced that he will offer Eid prayers at Dargah Hazratbal. Sources told that strict instructions have been given to the police to intensify vigil around the Hyderpora residence of Geelani and not allow him to move out. Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) chairman Shabir Ahmad Shah, National Front Chairman Nayeem Ahmad Khan have also been placed under house arrest ahead of Eid. Shah had announced to offer Eid prayers ar Dargah Hazratbal. The spokesmen ofboth the parties have condemned the house arrest of Shah and Khan. Senior Hurriyat leader and Chairman Salvation Movement Zaffar Akber Bhat was also put under house arrest on Thursday. Meanwhile, Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq will offer Eid prayers at historic Eidgah in Srinagar. The Eid prayers would be held at 10 am and before that from 9am onwards Mirwaz will deliver Eid sermon.
