Ahh tipping articles. They always bring out the assholes in comments. To those who might agree with the comment I read and responded to here, that if we leave them 20% they make more than I do whattttttt? Then, to that person I say, get a job waiting tables! Heck, if a person likely working 25-30 hours a week makes more than you do (or is perceived as such) that is pretty awesome! But heres reality. Ive been doing this for about 6 years now, part time to supplement. I love it, I really do. But it is not something anyone can do, least of all, likely the people who say things like that. To add to my rant, many people dont realize that servers and bartenders in most states make less than minimum wage, buy their own uniforms, pay a percentage of sales to support staff, and pay taxes as a percent of sales whether you tipped or not. Most restaurants dont give sick days or vacation time. Hardly any provide health, dental, vision, life or any of those other perks. When I worked in banking they called that total compensation. A server or bartenders total comp is a measly wage, tips minus tip out. I dont necessarily agree that if service was average that you must tip 20%. 15% is adequate but 20 or more is appreciated for extra running or really great service. K, Sunday rant is over :)
