Ahmadu Bello was a man of the masses - Gov. Ahmed Kwara State Governor, Dr. Abdulfatah Ahmed has called on governments at all levels to emulate and adopt the ideals of former Prime Minister of Northern Nigeria, Sir Ahmadu Bello’s philosophy of people oriented governance in order to bridge the gap between the government and the governed. Governor Ahmed said this in a message to the opening ceremony of a capacity building workshop in emergency trauma/blast care skills for doctors and health workers from the north central zone organized by Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation (SABMF) in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital. The governor who was represented by the Secretary to the State Governor, Alhaji Isiaka Gold recalled that Sir Ahmadu Bello, as Prime Minister championed the cause of the masses and brought succour to them during his life time in order to transform the northern region. According to Dr Ahmed, Sir Ahmadu Bello “radiated love and goodwill to all and exhibited understanding, tolerance and support towards fellow human beings” values that politicians of today should embrace. Governor Ahmed who noted that the focus of the workshop on health was apt given the fact that healthcare delivery constitutes the major challenges facing northern Nigeria, suggested that government in the region should strive for improvement in the areas of advocacy, preventive health care, polio eradication, epidemic and access to affordable quality health care. A member, Advisory Council of Foundation and former Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Ahmadu Comassie, said the workshop was organized to address some health challenges in the north and promote well being of the people. He added that the foundation has also designed programmes to enhance economic empowerment, education, agriculture, advocacy and research for the promotion of good governance in the region.
