Ahmed Belbacha is a 43 year old Algerian accountant who used to work for the state oil company. He’s lived in France, Britain and Pakistan and Afghanistan. He was picked up in Pakistan in December 2001, three months after the attack on the twin towers in New York, interrogated and sent to Guantanamo. He’s been there for eleven years. The US military eventually decided that there was no reason to charge him and recommended him for release. That was six years ago. It’s impossible for journalists to speak directly to any of the detainees, so this account is provided by his lawyers. Ahmed Belbacha’s words are spoken by an actor.
