Ahoy everyone, especially those that are already registered and have been a while. I understand there are rumblings about the freebies we are giving and For that I am sorry. Please understand that AAD is a non profit, and when it makes a contract, we have to try to make those terms any way possible. 2014 has been a very hard year, from the amount of quad rooms (which is NOT a good idea for this hotel as much as it has been in the past at other hotels because of the room size) to people not liking the location ( even though a LOT of people wanted Charlotte as a destination not a traveling waypoint). Rooms are the hard one this year, which is why we have been doing the giveaways, because otherwise *I* will be saddled with a HUGE bill I cant pay (because AAD is a Non profit and we keep this as cheap as possible for everyone and that means we dont have a cushion of $ like other events do to fix things) and AAD will not make it another year. Please note that we have NEVER had this issue before, and its Killing me on this end to be doing what needs done in order to ensure I dont go into debt for putting together an convention. I dont make money on this event, and everything that comes in, from the Registrations to the tshirt money goes to the event, the charity and to make sure the staff is taken care of (since they take such good care of you and the event). As much as I would hate to stop doing AAD in the future, I will if it becomes a drain on my personal life and bank account because unlike a lot of authors, Im not making a ton of money with my books to just throw at an event I get more stress out of than benefits. So I just wanted to let you know WHY this is happening. YOu might not like it, and at this point I dont either but I cant be saddled with a 47k fee. I just cant. it would probably cause a divorce and would bankrupt me. And AAD, the ONLY con in Romance that gives a fig about the readers, would be no more. So Im trying to set things up for the attendees that were awesome and support this event, adding entries for the the welcome prizes (we are up to ten a piece), putting them into special raffles for special prizes (like 2015 registrations), and trying to put aside some goodies and books for them. Please know, Im not forgetting you, and Im working my ass off behind the scenes (I havent written in almost 5 weeks, pushing my career behind everything else) make this as fair as I can and as awesome as I can. THankfully some of the authors are wicked cool and helping me, otherwise this year would probably break me. thanks to everyone, and know that I havent forgotten you, but filling these rooms is priority right now, because I just cant pay for it otherwise.
