Aid for Ukraine and sanctions, not appeasement, the right answers to Russian aggression - The Sydney Morning Herald - January 22, 2015 Recently, we have begun to hear voices in Australia who believe that appeasing the Russian bear is in the interests of Australia, Europe, the US and the West more generally. British journalist Edward Lucas, author of the book Spies, Lies, and How Russia Dupes the West, argues that when it comes to Russia, the West should give up any hope of a return to business as usual. Instead, it should focus on the defence of the Baltic States and Poland and help for Ukraine, while imposing visa sanctions on the Russian elite. Ukrainians in Ukraine and in the diaspora, including in Australia, agree with Lucas. We especially agree with the phrase help Ukraine.
