Aight, Mike Briggs nominated me to post one of my favorite songs each day for 5 days (and at the end, nominate someone else). I love songcraft; the genre or style doesnt really matter so long as I detect some evidence of imagination, intelligence, believability and wit. Technical skills are cool, too, when not overly gratuitous, but the main thing is the song, the chord changes, tempo, rhythm, lyrics and key melodies. Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil have written so many great songs, its truly astonishing. Here You Come Again, as beautifully rendered by Dolly Parton, is, to me, a major achievement; its concise, has great forward motion, killer lyrics and melody, and modulates all over the place.
