Ailing healthcare: Sharing beds, roaming cats, in SMHS hospital irks Patients, attendants Srinagar, June 13 (KNS): Patients, attendants in Shri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) hospital complaint of inconvenience and lack of patientcare which has rendered thousands of patients, attendants in the hospital to face the brunt. According to KNS correspondent, the irony is that two to three patients have been accommodated on sharing basis on a single bed that has created trouble for the patients. This correspondent witnessed that the patients admitted in the ward number 18 of the hospital are forced to share the bed for couple despite their several pleas to the concern authorities about the unbearable inconvenience. “We were asked to share the bed due to non availability of beds in the ward. It is very tough to share the bed amid summers that too when patients is elderly”, said Farooq Ahmad, one of the attendant. Attendants also allege that the doctors on duty are not available in their rooms most of time. However they added that doctors round checking are satisfactory but during night hour’s patient cares is lacking. Interestingly when this correspondent was present at the hospital, the doctor on duty was not available inside his room at 7:30 in the evening, though he has placed a piece of reading ‘Doctor on call 9797257078’. Abdul Hameed, one of the attendants from Srinagar said, “I wonder how can doctor drop his cell number outside his cabin when most of attendants are no familiar to cell phone. He asked, “Does it mean putting cell number outside cabin makes the doctor present and available for patients. Surprisingly this correspondent witnessed ‘cats’ rooming inside the ward which can be dangerous for surgical patients. It was also observed that cats rooming inside hospital also irritate attendant especially during night hours. The scene inside the hospitals does not end here, however the doctor who entered one of the ward was without apron which hardly dominate him as doctor among attendants. (KNS)
