Aint that GOOD NEWS!!! So, on yesterday, I received the following email from the University of Alabama Graduate School: Dear Brice Miller, Im writing you to inform you all corrections have been made and approved for your submission, FEET DONT FAIL ME NOW: BRASS BANDS IN POST-KATRINA NEW ORLEANS, thus satisfying ALL requirements for graduation! Yes Sir!!! Therefore, on December 13, 2014, I will be second-lining across the stage to be hooded by Dr. Ellen Spears and officiated as Dr. Brice A. Miller! Although I successfully defended my dissertation on June 9th, my committee suggested I take my time to carefully edit and clean up my manuscript in an effort to move directly to publishing. That was the best decision, being, not only is it now a much better document, it is so good that I have a meeting next week to discuss potential publishing! I have to give a MASSIVE THANKS to so many people, but especially my family (Shaneeka Miller, the Miller Krewe, and my entire family for the support, and the New Orleans brass band community for allowing me to be our voice) and my committee and advisory team: James Hall, Hank Lazer, Utz Mcknight, Andrew Raffo Dewar, Aaron Kuntz, and Ellen Spears. And a special shout out to Deborah Currence-Walker for all the support. I want each of you to know that without youll, I NEVER WOULD HAVE MADE IT! We did it! Although I have been back home in New Orleans since September 2012, I have maintained a low-profile, with the exception of performing. But now the time has come for me to let MY CITY know I’m back home, and I’m ready to be engaged, involved, and make a difference @ BRICE MILLER: Re-Established 2014 w/ Mayor Mitch Landrieu- City of New Orleans
