Aint this sweet. The new study shows that 10 percent (5,570 people) in Franklin County, 7.9 percent (5,380) in Bedford County and 15.6 percent (960 people) in the Town of Bedford are at risk of hunger. The findings come from Feeding America’s annual Map the Meal Gap study, which estimates the rate of food insecurity for both the general population and separately, for youngsters under the age of 18. In Franklin County, for example, the study shows that 77 percent of children at risk of hunger are eligible for federal nutrition programs, like free or reduced price breakfasts and lunches offered by the school system. In Bedford County, 64 percent of children are at risk, and in the town, 69 percent.
