Air Freight Market Analysis - September 2013 Released 30 October 2013 Key points from our full report on air freight markets in September: Air freight markets stabilized in September, after an extended period of slow increase; Global FTKs were up 0.5% year-on-year, a slowdown on the 3.4% growth in August; But volumes are still at a 25 month high, supported by recent improvements in the business environment; September results show moderation in growth rates for Middle Eastern and European airlines; These regions had carried the recent rise in FTKs, supported by modest growth of the Eurozone economy; Asia Pacific airlines continue to see weakness in air freight demand, with FTKs falling 3.1% in September; But downward pressure from regional economic weakness appears to be easing, with GDP growth in China up in Q3; Air freight load factors improved slightly from a fall in capacity over the month, but are still weak and down on a year ago; The outlook is tentatively positive - business confidence is rising and September export orders point to trade growth ahead; There is still no sign, however, of improvement in Asia Pacific FTKs, the largest share of global air freight volumes; Developments in the region will have an important influence on how air freight performs overall in Q4 2013.
