AirAsia plane overshoots Philippines runway before skidding into muddy ditch .. AN AIRASIA plane carrying 159 people has overshot the runway at an airport in the Philippines - two days after one of the airlines craft went missing over the Java Sea. The AirAsia plane sits on a grassy bank after overshooting the runway in Kalibo, the Philippines. The AirAsia Zest plane avoided disaster when it skidded into a muddy ditch at an an international airport in the central Philippines, as it landed from Manila in windy weather today, officials said. There were no reported injuries - in stark contrast to reports of bodies being recovered from missing AirAsia Flight QZ8501, which vanished on Sunday. Passengers disembarked from the Airbus A320-200 using emergency slides after the plane skidded off the runway in the resort town of Kalibo, in Aklan province, according to Giovanni Hontomin, who is in charge of AirAsia Zests operations. Passenger Jet Damazo-Santos posted on Twitter: Just landed in Kalibo on an AirAsia flight that overshot runway. Had to deplane using emergency slide. Nobody seems to be hurt. Weather was bad. Plane came to a very abrupt stop. Initial reports indicated that three of the planes tyres got stuck in the mud, Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines spokesman Eric Apolonio said. He said the busy airport would be closed to air traffic until the stalled aircraft is towed away from near the runways end.
