Ajimobi, Mimiko preach peace The Wife of Oyo state governor, Mrs Florence Ajimobi, in the spirit of the season, on Thursday, enjoined Oyo State residents to embrace peace and shun violent acts or gatherings to further move the pace setter state forward. According to her, the most important asset anyone should desire now is peace as this is the only way the state can further enjoy development. “It is important for us to at this period ,to continually seek peace in everything we do. It is only in an atmosphere that is peaceful that we can achieve our dreams and make things work well” Mrs Ajimobi made the call at the Catholic Hospital, Oluyoro, during her visit to the Oyo State Baby of the year at the St. Anne’s lying in ward of the hospital The new year baby, a girl, weighing 3.3kg, was delivered early on Thursday morning at 12.20 a.m. to Mrs Calista Igwe. She also visited and gave gifts to eleven other babies that were delivered between December 30 and 31, 2014, as well as all children that were on admission in the hospital. Also, wife of the Ondo State governor, Mrs Olukemi Mimiko, has tasked parents to take advantage of the various programmes of the state government for the development of their children. She said the programmes in both the education and health sectors, were meant for the development of the people of the state, particularly, the children. The Ondo State first lady said this in Akure, the state capital, during a children party organised for children in the state at the Government House, Akure. According to her, government had carefully designed the programmes for the benefit of the people to be able to contribute to the development of the state. Mrs Mimiko noted that the various intervention of government in the health sector had led to a drastic reduction in infant mortality with the children in the state having hope of surviving. She also said apart from the direct benefits of such programmes, they also serve as means of tackling poverty as they are offered at no cost. She also said the free shuttle bus of government had gone a long way to reduce the burden on parents. She added that her pet project, “Martenal Pulse” had also complemented the efforts of government at ensuring a healthy state. The state governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko ,,at the event, charged the children to strive to become hero and make the state proud in the nearest future. He said government would in the new year pursue the child friendly programmes already being implemented with vigour to make them achieve the desired results. Mimiko noted that despite the global economic situation with its attendant effects of the finances of the state, government had continued to implement the programmes free of charge.
