Ajimobi attributes Accord Party’s criticisms to naivety Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State has said that naivety of the way governments all over the world works was responsible for the criticisms from former governor Rashidi Ladoja’s Accord Party against his tour of local governments in the state where he distributes letters of appointments the 5,300 teachers recently employed by his administration. The Accord Party had described as “executive joblessness” Governor Ajimobi’s tour of the 33 local governments in the state meeting the people and distributing letters of appointments to the teachers. Ajimobi, while speaking with elders and traditional chiefs in Iddo Local Government on Friday, said that it was the unique way of the opposition in the state whose way of life was to disparage any good government policy that did not come from them. “I was told that they said it was joblessness that I am going round the state meeting my people and distributing letters of appointment to 5,300 teachers. Isn’t that ridiculous? How can you have a Commander in Chief who is going round to inspect his troops and you still accuse him of looking after the welfare of his people? What job did the people elect me to do if not going round to look after my people’s welfare? No doubt, it is the usual idle talk of the opposition,” Ajimobi said. He told the mammoth crowd that had come to receive him that in the history of governance in the state, no administration had employed as much people as his government had done in the last three and half years. “I challenge them to come with facts and figures. We have recently employed 5,300 teachers; we took 20,000 youths from the streets. We employed doctors and health workers in their thousands. We are not surprised at the reception from our people at every local government we get to. Our people appreciate all these efforts and that is our joy,” he said. Ajimobi urged the people of the state to gird their loins as politicians, whose stock in trade was character assassination, were on the prowl, believing that the electorate were fickle-minded. He solicited the support of the traditional rulers and the people of the council to propagate the achievements of his administration, stating that the performance of the government was hinged on their support and that of God. The governor also assured the people of Apete who are of Iddo local government that the bridge would be completed shortly and would be commissioned next month. “Iddo is very strategic to this government because it is a combination of urban and rural dwellers where the feelings of the people can easily be felt. Iddo has the largest land mass around here and the people are always in support of the government,” he said. Earlier, the representative of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, High Chief Tajudeen Ajibola had lauded the various achievements of the Ajimobi administration, stating that it had taken care of the wellbeing of traditional rulers so far and asked for an upward review of the allowances of the chiefs.
