Ajimobi fortifies security personnel, presents 3 APCs to police, 4 patrol vans to Operation Burst Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State, at the weekend, presented three Armoured Personnel carriers (APCs) to the state police command and four patrol vehicles to the state security outfit, Operation Burst. The governor, while making the presentations at the Governor’s Office Car Park, said the equipment were meant to fortify the security personnel and make them more efficient in the discharge of their duties. “The Oyo State Joint Security Patrol Squad (Operation Burst), in its efforts to fight crime in the State, has deployed more security personnel to all the Zonal Headquarters across the State. We should remember that peace is the irreducible minimum that any government must offer the people. Infrastructure and other developmental strides can only be built upon the superstructure of peace. “To enhance effective service delivery of the Security Agencies in the State, equipping the security agencies with sophisticated security gadgets became necessary. This prompted this administration to embark on the provision of every necessary tool for their operations,” he said. Ajimobi said the security personnel serving in the state would be given necessary support in terms of welfare, logistics and commitment, so as to serve as motivation for them to do more. Governor Ajimobi commended the Operation Burst team for the maintenance of peace in the state, stressing that necessary impetus would be given to support their activities. We are already harvesting the fruits of our peace. Companies and investors are now trooping into the state. This Government was able to achieve this as a result of objective and dispassionate approach to addressing security issues, with the aim of restoring the dignity of our people that had eluded them in time past,” he said. The governor promised to continually steer the ship of the state towards effective governance. “Our administration is working assiduously to transform Oyo State, restore cherished values and institutions, as well as reposition the new Oyo as the place to be. Our goal is to achieve an economically prosperous, politically-stable and just society where security of lives and property of the generality of citizens and residents is guaranteed against threats or attacks,” he said. The governor had earlier received the report of the Steering Committee on the Security of Oyo State from the Chairman of the committee and Commander of Operation Burst, Brig.-Gen Laz Ilo. He promised that appropriate steps would be taken to ensure the continued maintenance of security of lives and property in the state. The committee was constituted last year to determine the causes of incessant cases of armed robberies in the state, suggest ways to prevent the occurrence and also fashion out the best way the state government and the private sector could synergize to combat the menace of hoodlums in the state. In his remarks, Gen. Ilo said part of the recommendations of the committee to government was the provision of satellite trackers and helicopters for security patrol in the state. The committee also suggested the establishment of a central security control room for easy communication among the personnel and for emergency purposes. Governor Ajimobi thereafter inspected a guard of honour mounted by the officers and men of Operation Burst.
