Ajimobi kicks off re-election campaign in Ibarapa GOVERNOR Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State, on Wednesday, started his governorship re-election campaign outside the state capital, in the Ibarapa zone, with a kick-off in Igangan, Tapa, Ayete, Idere and Igbo-Ora area of the state. The campaign, which witnessed crowd of party faithful and supporters, began with a visit to the Asigangan of Igangan, Oba Abdulazeez Olawuyi, Gbadewole 1. Governor Ajimobi, who said he deliberately chose to begin the campaign in the area, said it was the measure of his love and respect for the Ibarapa zone of the state. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to changing the policy of violence hitherto inflicted on the state by previous governments and said his government deliberately and consciously embarked on a policy of bringing back peace to the state since it was the foundation of development in any society. He said his administration would continue to bring developmental projects to the Ibarapa zone and the state in general, if given another opportunity by the people to serve them again. He particularly underscored his desire to continually respect the traditional institution in the state, stating that as custodians of tradition and culture, they deserved pride of place in the society. In his response, the Asigangan expressed the readiness of the Igangan community to work for the success of Governor Ajimobi’s re-election, stating that his administration had done “wonderfully well” in the area of infrastructural development and maintenance of peace in the state. He said the relationship of the present administration in the state with royal fathers was very cordial and deserved to be acknowledged by any traditional ruler, who desired peace and progress in his area. He also commended the initiative of the wife of the state governor, Mrs Florence Ajimobi, in the provision of food items for widows and the less-privileged. At the podium, Ajimobi enjoined the people to vote for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in all the elections that would be held in February, stating that the party was the only hope of development of the state and Nigeria as a whole.
