Ak everything sucks. I started listening to Bruce Springsteen - TopicsExpress

Ak everything sucks. I started listening to Bruce Springsteen after seeing him on Howard Zinns The People Speak, but I just read the lyrics to Fire and man... gross. I loved Bob Dylan in high school but wow, Oh Sister is gross. Even Kathleen Hanna wont apologise for playing at a no-trans-allowed festival. I liked the beat generation in high school, but theyre gross. Last year I saw Black Books for the first time and thought it was hilarious, but a few weeks ago I watched the episode Manny Come Home again (episode one from season three), and is there any possible way to interpret the message of the episode other than, If youre in an abusive, violent relationship, held in something approximating domestic slavery, and you try to leave your abuser, youll just end up vulnerable, and subject to a subtler but ultimately worse form of abuse and exploitation, and eventually youll realise how much you missed your original abuser, because even though hes evil and views you as his property, because he has a stake in that property hell protect it from other, supposedly worse predators, and ultimately, you cant escape your status as property, so your only solution is to choose the abuser whose abuse has the best unintended positive side effects. Ak, research institutions seem pretty effed to me (because they fail science, not because science fails...), but artistic institutions are even more effed. If your going to do anything through the mass media you should have to go through a preemptive art critique struggle session with the universe first. No ones a creative genius, were all politically incorrect, egotistical, self satisfied, selfish idiots. Thats why the best thing in the world is the scientific method, i.e, trial and error, plus permanent skepticism, plus merciless criticism of your own ideas and those of others. The emotional instinct that ought to underlie the practice of the scientific method, is that whenever you propose a broad, sweeping theory about life, you should feel embarrassment and shame and ask yourself How dare I! What the hell do I know!?. Whenever you hear someone else propose a broad, sweeping theory about life, a rage should bubble up inside you that screams out How dare they! What the hell do they know?!. If we ask each other and ourselves What the hell do we know?! for long enough, eventually we get stuff like the atomic theory of matter, classical mechanics, and the realisation that all members of homo sapiens sapiens share 99.9% of their DNA, and that race is therefore 99.9% culturally constructed. Life is so, so, disgusting. theage.au/victoria/the-boss-on-fire-im-not-having-his-baby-or-his-show-oh-oh-oh-20131004-2uzr3.html
