Aklan District Jail is region’s best KALIBO, Aklan — The Aklan District Jail (ADJ) was awarded by the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) as the Best Jail of Region 6 for second quarter of the year. Jail Insp. Norberto Miciano Jr. received the award from Jail Senior Supt. Ignacio Sarabia Panti, BJMP Western Visayas director, during the recent 2nd Quarter Management Conference at the Metropolis Subdivision Clubhouse in Jaro, Iloilo City. The ADJ, manned by 21 personnel, was cited for its programs for the inmates’ welfare and development through physical exercise/daily therapy, religious activities, sports and recreation, and livelihood activities. It also conducted summer sports fest for BJMP personnel and inmates from April 14 to May 31 this year, and sustained religious services and livelihood programs for inmates, like vegetable gardening and furniture-making. The ADJ also constructed a canopy in front of its building for the comfort of relatives visiting the inmates. All cells and other buildings inside its compound were repainted, while the old roof of the chapel made of nipa was replaced with corrugated galvanized iron sheets. The ADJ also opened its doors to members of the Public Attorney’s Office and the Integrated Bar of the Philippines to provide free legal services to inmates in celebration of the Community Relations Service last month. Also, the Brotherhood of Christian Businessmen and Professionals has conducted an outreach program and gift-giving in the jail. The ADJ has successfully implemented the onsite voting for inmates during the May 13 elections, while it also conducted an onsite voting for inmates, together with a composite BJMP team, at the Aklan Rehabilitation Center (ARC). Meanwhile, the ADJ has participated in the Department of Education’s “Brigada Eskwela” by helping clean the Nalook Integrated School here. It also initiated a Read-A-Book activity for 30 Grade 1 pupils in observance of the Police–Community Relations Month, distributed food as part of its feeding program, and held a cleanup drive in Brgy. Nalook. The ADJ sits on a 1,015-square meter government-donated lot in Brgy. Nalook and is next to the ARC. (PIA–Aklan/PN)
