Al Bowlly, the first radio “crooner” was born on this date 117 years ago. He died in London during a German air raid in 1941 at the age of 43. Richard Thompson wrote a beautiful song called “Al Bowlly’s in Heaven” about a disillusioned World War II vet reminiscing about his former life.
