Al Bowlly, the first radio “crooner” was born on this date 117 years ago. He died in London during a German air raid in 1941 at the age of 43. Richard Thompson wrote a beautiful song called “Al Bowlly’s in Heaven” about a disillusioned World War II vet reminiscing about his former life. Here is Al Bowlly with one of his signature songs Midnight, the Stars and You with the Ray Noble Orchestra in 1934, In a moment I will post Richard Thompson’s lovely song.
