Al-Makura optimistic of victory at polls Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa State said he was optimistic that he would emerge victorious at the February 28 governorship election in the state because of the excellent deliverance on the mandate given him by people of the state. Consequently, the governor countered insinuations making the rounds that his second term bid may not see the light of the day due to the defection of some members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, who were supposed to campaign for him. He argued that those who defected to his party were more valuable than those who left. Al-Makura stated this in a chat with journalists in Lafia, the state capital, shortly after donating 50 cars and 342 motorcycles to his campaign coordinators, who cut across the 13 local government areas of the state. He, however, added that the governorship seat of the state would be zoned to the northern senatorial zone of the state in 2019 if he is re-elected for a second term in office, assuring that the power shift to the northern zone of the country would ensure equity and justice to the people of that part of the state. According to the governor, “my second tenure in office would focus on human capacity building popularly refer to as ‘stomach infrastructure’. Although more priority would be given to human capacity building, but the provision of basic amenities for the state would always remain the cardinal principle of my administration. “I don’t want people to place much emphasis on stomach infrastructure. I am thinking of creating avenues for commercial activities, agriculture and others to flourish so that people can take care of themselves,” he said.
