Al Suarez may be the most destructive of all of the predatory men in Tampa who invade leftist spaces to build cover for their assaultive behavior. Anyone interested in fighting rape culture on campus needs to make sure HCC removes him as head of an anti domestic violence club. At the Justice for Trayvon action downtown the day after the Zimmerman verdict, Suarez tried to make a citizens arrest of one of the most respected activist women in Tampa. He tried to start a fight with me when I called attention to what was happening. Ive heard people say they wont take a definitive position on whether the stories about him assaulting women that have spread from occupy camps through out the country are true. These same people are totally familiar with the way he invades spaces that have explicitly told him he isnt welcome and his deep commitment to disruption and antagonism. I may be less in the loop than some people, but he is clearly someone with far less respect for consent than most men, which is saying a lot. There is also speculation, which seems to me decently founded, that TPD is complicit in his attempts to disrupt the left. At the Trayvon rally, his buddy was yelling death threats at cops and they didnt do anything (but there are other indications that TPD was told to be on their best behavior that day).
