Al Turki NMC Cup enters quarterfinal stage Muscat: OEC, Al Khoud and Coastal CC became the first three teams to enter the quarterfinals of the fifth Al Turki/NMC Cup organized by the Oman Indo-Pak Friends and currently being played at the Al Rifa grounds along the Azaibah beach. In the opening match of the evening, OEC clashed with NHT beating it by 31 runs to book their place in the quarters. Electing to bat first after winning the toss, OEC posted a score of 70 runs for the loss of four wickets in their stipulated eight overs, with Faisal turning out the top scorer with 30 and Adnan adding 16 to help swell the total. Sunil was the top wicket-taker with 2 for 13. Requiring 71 runs to win, NHT could only notch up 39 runs for the loss of six wickets in their allotted eight overs. Umairuddin top scored with 15 while Zafar was the main wicket-taker returning an impressive tally of 3 for 8. Faisal of OEC was declared the man of the match. In the second match played at the same venue, Coastal CC beat Century CC by a solitary run to join OEC in the quarters. Winning the toss and taking first strike, Coastal CC could only manage to rustle up a moderate total of 45 runs for nine wickets in their allotted eight overs. The bowler who caused the maximum damage was Sunil, emerging from the joust with a tally of 4 for 6. Needing 46 runs to win, Century CC played hard and fell short of their target by just one run in their stipulated eight overs. Jatinder with 20 was the top run-getter. Sharat with figures of 4 for 13 was adjudged the man of the match. In the last match, Al Khoudh CC beat Aiman & Qaisar XI by a huge margin of 41 runs. Al Khoudh CC won the toss and elected to bat, posting a score of 75 runs for the loss of four wickets at the end of their eight overs, thanks to 33 by Muzaffar who topped the score board. Waseem was the top wicket-taker with 2 for 16. Chasing a target of 76 runs for victory, Aiman & Qaisar kept losing wickets at regular intervals and eventually ended up losing the match. Rajesh made a useful contribution of 17. Fayaz and James walked away with 2 wickets each. Muzaffar from Al Khoudh CC was declared the man of the match. The semifinals of the NMC Cup will be played on Thursday. The tournament is sponsored by Al Turki and National Metal Cans.
