Because US & China have strong trade ties... Business-wise - a lot is at stake for both countries - as they are the two most powerful countries today. Japan is a small country but they are more than capable of defending their sovereignty. They can withstand immediate aggression esp. From china. Its because japan has a well-equipped military. Presently, china has begun building some structures on the shoal and reclaiming some parts of the disputed waters un-opposed. all we can do just watch as this developments unfold...this move by china is an in-your-face insult to us...
